Authentic Craftmanship

Fine Leather Handcraft
The creation of fine leather goods is an art, skillfully mastered by the artisans of the Marguet workshop. We often compare our métier to a symphony: we follow a score where each artisan plays their part, with their own specialty, and every operation influences the quality of the next one. There must be perfect harmony between all the stages to obtain a case that meets your highest expectations.
Upon receiving your order, five business days are all that is required to complete a case, while standard production elsewhere requires 30 to 45 days. This achievement is made possible by our long-standing expertise in the manufacturing of customized leather goods, with a dedicated production line led by highly experienced artisans.
The atelier speaks through the senses. There is sound: the measured tapping of small mallets on assembled pieces, echoing like a metronome. There is scent: the soft, enveloping fragrance of leather that fills the storage room. There is sight: the splendor of skins—Himalaya Crocodile, Alligator, Python, Ostrich, and Calf—sourced from the world’s finest tanneries, displayed in a kaleidoscope of textures and tones. And above all, there is touch. Artisans run their hands across the grain with delicacy, as in a caress, discerning whether it is warm, cool, or soft. Their vocabulary to describe this feeling is as refined as the craft itself.

The Art of Leather selection
The selection of leather is a fundamental step in the production of exceptional leather goods and requires long-standing experience. It is one of the criteria that distinguishes French manufactures operating in the luxury segment from others. For the connoisseur, it is the first unmistakable sign that distinguishes a true luxury piece from an ordinary one.
Prestigious tanneries in France and Tuscany—many of which are now owned by leading French luxury groups to secure their leather supply—have priority access to the finest hides, flawless and free from defects caused by tanning, for example. With more than 40 years of family history in the leather goods industry, we have built a strong network and established the reputation of our workshop. This privileged position grants us access to the finest skins, enabling us to offer products on par with the greatest luxury maisons.

Leather Cutting
The first stage in production is the cutting of the different leather pieces required to make your case. The positioning of these cuts on the hide is crucial, since it defines the very first impression of your product when you receive it. Each leather cut is made following our rigorous technical and quality specification guidelines, drafted according to the standards of the finest French maisons.
Every cut depends on its placement on the hide, taking into account the grain, the scales, the size, and its natural variations. This is what makes your case unique: no other can ever have the same appearance.

Splitting, Skiving & Assembly
The cut pieces are split to a specific thickness, and the edges are thinned. These high-precision operations—performed with an accuracy of a tenth of a millimeter—are essential, as they harmonize the thickness of the leather to ensure that all subsequent steps are carried out under the same conditions, prerequisites to achieving an exceptional result. This step is the foundation of excellence.
Assembly consists first of joining the different leather pieces with their internal reinforcements. Then these components are assembled onto the case structure, with the Alcantara lining on the inside. Entirely performed by hand, this step requires dexterity and great savoir-faire to achieve the necessary precision.

Stitching
Stitching is among the final stages of production and may be performed either by hand or by machine. It is entrusted to highly experienced leatherworkers, each with specific training and expertise. This step is technically demanding and cannot reach perfection unless every preceding operation has been executed with precision and harmony.
For this reason, connoisseurs and experts alike judge the quality of fine leather goods by their finishing: it reveals the excellence of the many invisible stages of production once the piece is complete.

Edge Varnishing
Edge varnishing colors the edges of leather pieces, which would otherwise reveal the layers of materials and reinforcements used in the construction. It is a meticulous process: each edge is dyed, left to dry, then delicately sanded by hand to achieve a smooth and harmonious finish. These steps are repeated as many times as necessary until the varnish attains perfect balance and durability.
For luxury iPhone cases, the black edge varnish on the front face—between the leather and the case structure—is a defining element. Daily and intensive use puts both leather and varnish under considerable stress. To ensure longevity, we have developed and tested, in collaboration with varnish manufacturers, a black dye used exclusively on all our cases—formulated not to peel and to guarantee the optimal aging of your case.

Jewelry
In leather goods, metal accessories are regarded as jewelry: clasps, buckles, camera rings, logos, or personalized initials. At Marguet, we use 316L stainless steel—the same alloy employed by Swiss watch manufactures for its strength and purity. Each piece is hand-polished to a mirror finish in our workshop, then treated to achieve its final shade: natural stainless steel, yellow gold-plated, rose gold-plated, or IP black.
The final stage of production is the setting of these jewelry elements onto the cases, before they undergo our quality control process.

Quality Control
At every stage of production, artisans perform self-checks, yet the process culminates in a final quality control. Here, an expert eye examines each case with meticulous care: residual dust is delicately removed, jewelry elements are polished, and every detail is assessed against our rigorous technical and quality specification guidelines.
Only once it meets these requirements is the piece placed into its case or presentation box, ready to be delivered to its future owner.

Logistics and Certificates
Certain exotic leathers such as alligator, crocodile, or python require CITES certificates for international export. These certificates guarantee the origin and traceability of all the hides we use, in accordance with the Washington Convention regulating trade in protected species. You will receive the original CITES certificate along with the shipping documents, which should be carefully kept.
